Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan the local patrol operation
- Confirm the purpose of the operation with the supervising officer
- Identify health and safety and environmental hazards and risks associated with the operation, and recognise appropriate controls for inclusion in the plan
- Identify resources required to support the operation, and confirm their availability
- Consider and take into account logistics associated with the operation when developing the operational plan
- Develop and submit an operational plan according to agency procedures
- Prepare for the local patrol operation
- Perform maintenance checks and testing to ensure communications and other equipment are operational
- Confirm backup systems and contingency plans are in place
- Obtain current information relating to local weather and seasonal conditions that are significant to the operation
- Recognise cultural, fishing and aquatic activities and their significance to the operation
- Confirm role of self and others involved in the operation
- Complete pre-operational activities in a timely and efficient manner
- Undertake the local patrol operation
- Select and check fit of the required personal protective equipment for the operation
- Re-confirm the operation objectives with others involved in the operation
- Follow the schedule of activities in the operational plan
- Use equipment safely and effectively throughout the operation according to standard operating procedures
- Use effective and timely communications with others involved in the operation
- Communicate with the public in a courteous, non-confrontational and culturally respectful manner
- Complete post-operational activities and checks in a timely and efficient manner
- Report on the local patrol operation
